We are in "Le Fins Bois“ designation of Cognac country 40 km from Cognac town.

The haute ville of Angoulême with it`s ancient roots and Plantagenet connections remains architecturally unspoiled and has all the facilities of a provincial capital with markets, restaurants, museums, cinemas

and a theatre.

Throughout the year there are many local entertainments, the world music festival in may.

The Tours des Remparts, in september,

a unique classic car rally.

In July, Cognac has it`s famous week long

Blues festival.

Café culture flourishes in town all year round.

Angoulême is the national center for the

Comic  Strip.

In January every year the international

Cartoon festival is held here.

This desirable region has been fought over

since Roman occupation, as a result it is rich in

classical remains and medieval castles

as well as wonderful Romanesque

churches and abbeys.

In autumn and winter

wine and gastronomy fairs happen all around.

We are surrounded by many cognac producers large and small .

Beyond Cognac you reach the Côte Sauvage (84 km)

with its great beaches and the chic Isles of Re

and Oleron.

The lively port city of La Rochelle is a mecca for

delicious seafood.

Bordeaux, one of France`s greatest cities is only 55 min from here by train and of course the famous Bordeaux wine châteaux are all around.

You can for instance take the ferry from Blaye to the Medoc passing the chateaux of St. Estèphe and Pauillac on the way to Arcachon with its huge sand dune and

the endless Cote d`Argent.

Nearer to home there are many different outings for the family from the wonderful indoor/outdoor swimming complex in town to the terrific wild life park/zoo at Palmyra near the coast and the Valley of the monkeys towards Poitiers.

Six km away is a large man made lake good for water sports with a safe beach suitable for small children.

The Charente river also has child friendly beaches

and wild swimming.

Kayaking and fishing are also an offer.

As well as producing wine and cognac

the Charente is an area of France long famed

for its wonderful farming land.

12 km away, the medieval town of Villebois Lavalette

with its chateau is a great place to have lunch

at the atmospheric restaurant

set beside the ancient market place.
